An “underrated” thriller centring on an abducted teenager and an emergency call worker is steadily climbing Netflix UK’s film charts.

The crime drama boasts an “outstanding” ensemble, highlighted by a nail-biting performance from Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry.

Further cast members include Little Miss Sunshine star Abigail Breslin, The Resident’s Morris Chestnut and WWE Smackdown! star David Otunga.

The IMDb synopsis for the “insanely tense” 2013 thriller, helmed by director Brad Anderson, reads: “When a veteran 911 operator takes a life-altering call from a teenage girl who has just been abducted, she realizes that she must confront a killer from her past in order to save the girl’s life.”

The Call, which carries a surprisingly modest 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a higher audience score of 65%, is currently available to stream on Netflix, reports the Express.

Audiences have flocked to Rotten Tomatoes’ review section to voice their opinions on the film, with many expressing bewilderment over its underwhelming score.

“It’s an underrated gem that deserves more credit than it ever got,” one viewer declared, while another concurred: “I cannot believe this only got a 43%. This should have deserved at least an 85-90%. Awesome movie!”

One enthusiast proclaimed: “Excellent! Five stars hands down!” while yet another added: “Loved this movie .. Best film I’ve seen in ages and had me hooked so much that I didn’t want it to end.

“Best thriller movie I have ever seen!!!!!!!!” gushed one viewer, while another agreed: “Best movie I have ever seen. Fast heart rate throughout all parts of the movie, so much suspense it was very good, the plot.”

A further viewer wrote: “5 star movie, a role I’ve never seen Halle Berry in before. All cast are outstanding in this thriller centred around the calls that an emergency telephone operator receives…”

Not everyone was won over by the thriller, however, with one viewer writing: “An ok thriller but not recommended.

“Competent but you know where it is going the entire time. Not a single new idea offered,” criticised another, while a third remarked: “Suspenseful? Definitely! Believable? Meh, not so much. Definitely a good way to pass the time while doing laundry.”
