Meghan Markle blasted over latest ‘tone-deaf’ and ‘hypocritical’ move

The Duchess of Sussex was heavily criticised after her latest message.

Meghan Markle has been criticised for her Father’s Day promotion for her lifestyle brand, As Ever. The Duchess of Sussex sent a new newsletter to her As Ever customers promoting her stock for the special day marked on Sunday, June 21, this year.

Meghan’s message, titled “Say thanks to Dad,” read: “Whether you need a simple way to say ‘thank you’ to Dad or simply want to create a comforting morning moment — breakfast in bed is the perfect treat.

“Gather your favourite morning baked goods (we love a buttery, flaky croissant) and serve with a dab of salted butter and a swipe of our Strawberry Spread. Add a slice of a favourite fresh fruit, and pour a steaming cup of coffee or Herbal Lemon Ginger Tea. Breakfast served bedside with a warm smile and a loving hug is a simple way to remind those we love how special they are.”

Meghan’s message also featured a new photograph for the promotion, showing a silver tray in bed with a croissant on a plate, and another plate filled with toast, jam and butter and half a clementine.

On the sides, a glass of orange juice and a ramekin with more jam and flower sprinkles.

But Meghan’s move sparked debate online, with some users saying the products were not suitable for a Father’s Day promotion.

Royal News Network, who regularly criticises the Sussex couple online, wrote on X: “This is the worst idea for a Father’s Day promotion, but it’s Meghan Markle’s As Ever, so it’s par for the course. This reeks and screams woman, not man.”

They added that the “vast majority of the male population has zero interest in her slop.”

Another one blasted: “If I put that in front of my husband, he would laugh and say what this s*** is.”

A third one said: “My husband’s idea of a Father’s Day breakfast is scrambled eggs, bacon, hash-browns/home fries and pancakes, not croissants and fake jam.”

Another user accused the Duchess of being tone-deaf, saying: “Jesus lord! She is so tone f****g deaf! Reconcile with your father Meghan!”

Others argued that Meghan may not be the best suited to talk about Father’s Day, given her estranged relationship with her own father, Thomas Markle, and father-in-law, King Charles.

One user commented on X: “How’s this for irony? Anyone think Megsie will be knocking on her poor father’s door on Father’s Day to say her own thanks?”

Another one said: “Her egregious hypocrisy never fails to stun…”

A third one added: “The woman who erased her own father from her life is suggesting how we can use her cheaply made products to honour our own fathers. This is a profound level of arrogant hypocrisy.”

Another user said: “Boy, she really has some nerve. ‘Say Thanks to Dad,’ says the woman who cut her own father out of her life, denied him the chance to meet his son-in-law and never allowed him to know his grandchildren.

“Now she wants to lecture the rest of us about celebrating Father’s Day? The hypocrisy is staggering. Meghan has spent years preaching family values while treating her own father as disposable. Spare us the sentimental marketing campaign.”

The Duchess of Sussex is believed to have little to no contact with her father.

Mr Markle did not attend the Sussexes’ wedding in 2018 and the King walked Meghan down the aisle.

But after 2020, when the Sussex couple quit royal life and moved to the US, the Duchess has also had little contact with the King.

Last year, for Father’s Day, the Duchess uploaded a video of the Duke and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Meghan captioned the video: “The best. Happy Father’s Day to our favourite guy.”
