Meghan Markle has seemingly stopped launching attacks on the Royal Family, having previously discussed her experience of the Firm via interviews and on the Sussexes’ 2022 Netflix series. Since her return to Instagram, the release of her Netflix show and launch of her brand, As Ever, Meghan has noticeably taken a step back from the verbal attacks – with one royal expert now explaining why.

Speaking to New! Magazine, royal author Ingrid Seward reveals why Meghan appears to have stopped her attacks, and the reason is said to be surprising. She shared that it is likely because she needs to get King Charles “on her side”.

She told the publication: “She’s also astute enough to know that having a good relationship with her father-in-law can only help her relationship with her husband, if that’s what he wants.

“Out of anyone, she needs to get him on side. Of course, she’s also got Camilla to deal with, who would never be rude or unpleasant to her, but knowing the sort of woman she is, she will be absolutely very, very wary of Meghan indeed.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been at loggerheads with the Royal Family for many years, and the soured relationships have escalated further since the couple decided to step down as senior working royals.

Despite the relationship fractures, Meghan previously spoke fondly of her father-in-law on their 2022 Netflix series, Harry & Meghan.

She said: “Harry’s dad is very charming. And I said to him, ‘I’ve lost my dad in this.’ So him as my father-in-law, was really important to me.”

The comment follows King Charles’s decision to accept the offer to walk his daughter-in-law down the aisle at their wedding in 2018.

Previously speaking about their relationship, Ms Seward said: “The relationship Meghan and Charles had at the beginning meant a lot to Meghan.

“Charles was very caring towards her, and although he is said to have nicknamed her ‘Tungsten’, I think he saw through that and saw her as quite vulnerable.”
