Throughout the neighborhoods of Baton Rouge, flyers bearing the face of 15-year-old Ja’Derrius Minnieweather have become a hauntingly common sight. Seven days have now passed since the teenager was last seen, and the prolonged silence of the past week has plunged his family into a state of profound and agonizing anxiety.
Portrait of a Responsible Teenager

Through the emotional recollections of his grandmother, Jawanna Brooks, Ja’Derrius is described as a motivated and resilient young man. With a slight frame—standing approximately five feet tall and weighing just under 100 pounds—he is remembered as an affectionate individual with a deep, unwavering attachment to his family. Beyond his gentle nature, Ja’Derrius displayed a remarkable sense of independence by participating in a city-led summer work program. He had recently begun employment at Istrouma High School and was eagerly anticipating the receipt of his second paycheck.
His family maintains that the complete lack of communication with his parents or grandparents over the past seven days is entirely unprecedented and stands in stark contrast to the habits of a boy who has always prioritized keeping in touch with his loved ones.
The Agony of the Left Behind
Choked with emotion, Ms. Brooks expressed her disbelief at the current circumstances: “He’s only 15 years old, you know? He was, he’s outgoing. He loved me. He would have called me. I know he would’ve, something happened to him because I know he would have called me by now.”
The family’s dread is compounded by the teen’s well-known reliance on his mobile phone. Ja’Derrius was notoriously attached to his device; even if his battery died while he was out with friends or cousins, he would consistently borrow someone else’s phone to check in with his family. As of 10:23 a.m. today, a full week had elapsed without a single word from him.
A Desperate Plea for Answers
For those who love him, the uncertainty surrounding Ja’Derrius’s whereabouts has become an unbearable psychological burden. Ms. Brooks has issued a heartfelt appeal to the community for any scrap of information: “If somebody knows something, please tell these people.”
The torment experienced by his grandmother is a sentiment shared by his entire family: “That’s about to eat me up, not knowing where my baby is.” Meanwhile, his father, Branderius Brooks, issued a poignant and raw plea in a final effort to reach his son: “All I want is my baby. I’ll give anything for my child. Please give me my baby.”
At this time, the search continues, and the family remains hopeful that with the support of the community, the truth behind this mysterious disappearance will soon come to light, allowing Ja’Derrius to return home safely.
