School Holiday Tragedy: Child Among Three Fighting for Life After Devastating Two-Car Crash on Queensland Highway
A school holiday outing has ended in tragedy after a devastating two-vehicle collision in southeast Queensland left three people fighting for their lives, including a primary school-aged child.
Emergency services rushed to the intersection of Mount Lindesay Highway and Gould Hill Road at Gleneagle shortly after 2:15 p.m. Monday, where a Subaru Impreza and a Nissan Qashqai had collided in circumstances that investigators are still working to understand.
The violent impact left multiple people seriously injured and triggered a massive emergency response.
Young Child Airlifted in Life-Threatening Condition
Queensland Ambulance crews found four people injured at the scene.
A primary school-aged child, who had been travelling in the Nissan, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital for emergency treatment.
A woman in her 50s was transported by road to Princess Alexandra Hospital in critical condition, while an adult man was also taken to hospital with critical injuries.
A teenage girl, believed to be in her early teens, was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Authorities have not released the identities of any of those involved.
Major Investigation Underway
Investigators from the Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit attended the crash scene and have begun examining exactly what led to the collision.
At this stage, police have not said which vehicle may have crossed into the other’s path or whether speed, weather or other factors played a role.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Highway Closed as Police Appeal for Witnesses
The severity of the crash forced the closure of Mount Lindesay Highway in both directions near the intersection with Gould Hill Road and Outlook Boulevard.
Motorists were urged to avoid the area while emergency crews treated the injured and investigators examined the scene.
Police are now asking anyone who witnessed the collision—or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash—to come forward, as detectives work to establish exactly what happened.
As families across Queensland enjoy the school holiday break, the heartbreaking crash serves as another reminder of how quickly lives can change on the state’s busy roads.
