The Duchess of Edinburgh has travelled to Denmark for a very poignant visit this week. The 61-year-old has appeared at the international conference Keeping our Children and Families Safe in the AI Era in the Landsting Hall at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen today.
As a patron of the NSPCC, Duchess Sophie joined King Frederik of Denmark at the event. The international conference had been organized by Save the Children. During her appearance, the royal participated in high-level discussions about the growing impact of artificial intelligence and social media on the wellbeing of young people
During the conference, the Duchess of Edinburgh toured Christiansborg Palace, guided by Parliamentary Officer Kasper Haarby.
She also visited the Conversation Room, which is where she studied the painting The Conversation 1918-2024 by artist Mie Mørkeberg, which features 30 influential women in politics.
In addition to Sophie and King Frederick, the conference also brought together politicians, experts, and technology leaders.
During his speech at the conference, King Frederick said: “With AI-generated images and videos, the line between what is real and what is not is becoming increasingly blurred. Children – and the rest of us for that matter – are, in effect, being deliberately deceived.

“And when convincing AI companions offer friendship, advice, and emotional support, it can be tempting to turn to them as trusted confidants. But they are not human.
“They have no lived experience, no genuine emotions, no moral judgement, and no true empathy. And if we begin to mistake machines for people, we risk being left in the dark.”
Later today, the Duchess of Edinburgh is expected to be back in London for the Florence Nightingale Foundation Commemoration Service at Westminster Abbey in her role as the Deputy Colonel in Chief of the Royal Army Medical Service.
