Strictly Come Dancing’s Dianne Buswell feared she’d “never be able to dance again” after baby’s birth
The pro dancer welcomed her first child with partner Joe Sugg in March.
Strictly Come Dancing pro Dianne Buswell has opened up on fearing she wouldn’t be able to take to the dance floor again after undergoing an emergency C-section to welcome her first child.
The 2024 Strictly winner and partner Joe Sugg introduced their son Bowden ‘Bowie’ to the world in a sweet social media post in March.
Speaking about the birth of her son on the Oxydise podcast, Dianne got candid about her C-section which left her in pain and forced to stay in bed as she was worried she wouldn’t be able to dance again.

“You basically are bedridden, also it’s your hormones going wild as well. So you’ve got that on top of pain on top of having this newborn and wanting to give it all your attention, but also you can’t even get out of bed,” she recalled of her experience.
“Even to sit up is like a real mission. There was one night I had to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, and I just burst into tears because of the pain of just sitting up or having to manoeuvre myself out of bed was just unbearable.”
Dianne described her recovery as “very intense”, while she had concerns about her career.

“I was like, ‘How am I going to recover, and will I ever be able to dance again?'” she shared.
“That was my initial thoughts. I was like, ‘This has absolutely torn through my muscles. I’m never going to be able to dance again. I’ve lost all mobility in my legs. I’ve lost my core strength.’
“It was very intense.”
Luckily, the professional dancer “started to feel so much better” after she passed the “two-week mark” in her recovery, which she described as “the main struggle”.
Dianne is among the pro dancers returning for the upcoming season of Strictly, which has only just announced its tenth celebrity contestant today.
Former England footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips has officially joined this year’s confirmed line-up so far, consisting of Delta Goodrem, Chris Appleton, Cach Mercer, Will Best, Dame Sarah Storey, Lacey Turner, Dani Dyer, Bethany Antonia, and Jaime Winstone.
