The solo traveller had made several trips to America in the past four years, with a particular focus on Palm Springs and Las Vegas, 7NEWS.com.au understands.

In the hours before she became uncontactable, Contarino had been on a night out in Las Vegas.
She spoke to loved ones on the phone afterwards and had planned to call again within hours, but never did.
Her flight home was the next day, on June 21, and Contarino never boarded it.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Tuesday said Contarino could “possibly be in severe emotional distress and in need of medical assistance”.
LVMPD released CCTV of Contarino, alongside a missing person report which stated she was last seen at a block of shops on Skye Canyon Dr in Las Vegas just after 1pm on June 20.
Cantarino was seen in the footage wearing shorts, a hoodie and Converse sneakers and was carrying a handbag.
Staff at the hostel where Contarino had been staying told an investigating consular officer she had checked out on the Saturday morning, using the self-service checkout option rather than at a front desk.
Days before she went missing, Contarino ate at Timbers Bar & Grill where staff remembered her as quiet and happy, according to The Sun.
Restaurant manager Jocelyn Zeigler-Arthur told the outlet the hostel where Contarino was staying — Bungalows Hostel on South Las Vegas Blvd — was in a “terrible” neighbourhood that was “not great for a girl alone”.
The Sun reports Contarino had booked a ticket on a Greyhound bus bound for Los Angeles — from where her scheduled flight home was departing — but investigators say that ticket was never scanned.
Police have been in touch with airports to confirm Contarino has not boarded any other flights and have put hospitals on alert in case she has been admitted.
Police have also been in touch with park rangers, advising them to keep an eye out for Contarino at national parks — which she enjoyed visiting for hikes on her travels.
Anyone with information about Contarino’s whereabouts is urged to contact the LVMPD.
