Meghan Markle has been accused of being ‘very inexperienced with cooking’ after sharing a ‘hack’ for eating bagels with cream cheese.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, took to Instagram on Monday to show how fans can use the $15 (£11) flower sprinkles from her lifestyle brand, As Ever, as part of a breakfast spread.

Prince Harry‘s wife shared a clip of herself scooping cream cheese onto a plate, before topping it with thinly-sliced strawberries and a selection of flower petals for ‘surprise and delight’.

After adding four untoasted bagel slices to the plate, she then topped the mound of cream cheese with a smattering of flower sprinkles.

After stirring a pot of her $12 (£9) jam with a knife, she used it to scoop some of the cream cheese onto the bagel and topped it with the fruit spread.

The video, shared to the As Ever Instagram page, was accompanied by the track Da Do Ron Ron by The Crystals and was captioned: ‘Strawberry! One of Oprah‘s favourite things. Don’t miss out.’

Royal spectators were baffled by the snack calling her an ‘inexperienced cook’ with ‘no table etiquette’.

In a post shared to X, one commenter wrote: ‘What in the ever-loving fresh hell is THIS?!? So now to serve cream cheese, we are smearing it on a plate, throwing leaves on it and calling it ‘elevated’? Get me out of here. The fruit goo looks disgusting.’

Another remarked: ‘Is she the only one that can’t cook? Does she think this is cooking? Instagram-worthy cooking?’

‘You can tell by the way she chops things (the strawberries in this clip), that she is very inexperienced with cooking,’ a second said.

Several critics said that Meghan had failed to complete basic steps, including toasting the bagels before spreading it with cream cheese.

‘Only a few people may understand this, but those bagels are raw,’ one remarked.

Another said: ‘Cream cheese and jam on a bagel is college dorm food. Except even a college kid would toast it first.’

Others called her ‘clueless’ and said the recipe was better off as a lesson in ‘food decoration’.

Elsewhere, some complainants accused her of disregarding table etiquette by wearing jewellery while preparing food.

In the clip, she was seen wearing several gold rings, a bangle, and a beaded bracelet on her palm.

One wrote: ‘Again, she’s always wearing jewellery when handling food, that is the biggest no-no in culinary etiquette. You take off your jewellery, you wash your hands, and then you’re good. I would never touch anything that even touches our cooks. God knows if she poisons you.’

According to most food hygiene manuals, it is essential that chefs remove any jewellery before cooking due to contamination risks.

A second said: ‘All these videos do is highlight how little Meghan knows about table etiquette. You don’t use the jam spoon to spread the jam on your bread, then put it back into the communal bowl.’

The flower sprinkles, which were included in her debut collection, contain just 5g of dried rose, calendula, blue cornflower petals, and hibiscus.

According to the brand’s website, the tiny edible flowers are intended to act ‘as confetti for your plating’ and to add ‘surprise and delight’ to any dish.

‘These flower sprinkles are just as easy as a dash of salt, but with a dash of beauty,’ the description reads.

It’s not the first of Meghan’s cooking mishaps. When the Duchess released her first cookery show earlier this year, she promised to ‘elevate the ordinary’ with a series of culinary tips inspired by her experiments in her Montecito mansion.

​Instead, she left viewers scratching their heads with a series of ‘lacklustre’ recipes, unorthodox methods, and a pasta dish that sparked fury amongst Italians.

Earlier this month, Meghan was mocked for sharing a recipe for ‘mulled water’ using the $16 Spiced Cider Mulling Spice Kit from her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

Fans were baffled by the recipe and accused the former actress of effectively making a pot of ‘mulled water’, with one likening it to ‘air freshener in mugs’.
