Netflix has dropped The Witness, a three-part true crime drama about the killing of Rachel Nickell.
In 1992, mum Rachel Nickell was stabbed to death on Wimbledon Common in front of her two-year-old son Alex.
Netflix’s new series follows the aftermath of her death, including the 10-year investigation and the impact it had on her son and partner Andre.
Where was The Witness on Netflix filmed?
The Witness made its Netflix debut today, Thursday, June 4, with all four episodes now ready to stream.
Filming began in September 2024, with the show filmed across various locations in London, England and Spain, before wrapping up in early 2025.

The production team filmed in areas around south west London to recreate the tragic events of Rachel’s murder.
Meanwhile, various scenes were also shot in Spain, although specific filming locations haven’t been shared.
As Netflix viewers find out from The Witness, father-and-son Andre and Alex Hanscombe moved to France and then Spain to get away from the press scrutiny in the UK.
Despite years of trying to stay out of the spotlight, the pair have been on board with Netflix’s The Witness as well as its documentary The Murder of Rachel Nickell.

Andre and Alex have worked on The Witness behind the scenes as consultants with the drama based on the latter’s 2015 book Letting Go: A True Story of Murder, Loss and Survival.
Andre shared with Netflix: “At first, we wanted to get as far away as possible, and live a life of solitude and anonymity abroad, but in many ways that became impossible.
“There was no escaping it. People suffer in different ways, and when this opportunity came up, we thought perhaps there’s a power for good in this somewhere.
“We’ve felt in the past that we’ve been forced into a box, but there’s more to our story than what’s been told before.”
The Witness is available to watch on Netflix.
