Rapper NBA YoungBoy was a passenger in a vehicle stopped along Interstate 15 for illicit drugs.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers did not arrest or charge the rapper, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden.
According to UHP Sgt. Mike Alexander, the trooper who initiated the stop had probable cause to search the vehicle. A male driver and a female passenger claimed ownership of the drugs found inside.
“In consultation with the Utah County Attorney’s Office, it was decided that charges would be screened against those two individuals for the possession of those illicit drugs,” Alexander said, not Gaulden.
Alexander confirmed money was also found in the vehicle, but said investigators did not find any connection between the cash and the drugs.

He declined to release the names of the driver and passenger.
Gaulden, 26, lives in Utah and has previously faced legal trouble in the state. In 2024, he was accused of prescription drug fraud and paid a $25,000 fine. He later served prison time for possession of a firearm as a felon.
When asked whether Gaulden’s criminal history could affect this case, given his occupancy in the vehicle and the presence of drugs that were seized, Alexander said he was not aware of any charges that would be considered against the rapper at this time.
