Netflix has plenty of true story films that will bring tears to your eyes, and the streaming giant recently added 2020’s 2 Hearts to its library, and the film has been shooting up at its charts.
The film, which only landed on the platform two days ago, has already rocketed up into the streamer’s Top 10, with viewers saying how they have been left in “tears” over the film, which is based on the true story of Leslie and Jorge Bacardi and Christopher Gregory.
However, despite fans loving the film, it initially flopped upon its release, with critics mostly unanimous in their criticism of the romantic drama.
The film focuses on two separate couples, teenagers Chris and Sam, who are at the start of their romance, and married couple Jorge and Leslie Bolivar. Although living entirely separate lives, the pair are brought together in unexpected ways.
The synopsis for the movie reads: “For two couples the future unfolds in different decades and different places, but a hidden connection will bring them together in a way no one could have predicted.“
Reception
Critics were dismissive of 2 Hearts when it was released in 2020, with the film only holding a measly 17% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus reads: “Its picturesque setting is as agreeable as its noble intentions, but this treacly melodrama proves 2 Hearts aren’t necessarily better than one.”
In a review for Variety, Owen Gleiberman wrote: “The film comes on like a love story wholesome enough to appeal to people nostalgic for the Doris Day era, but it’s really a sermonette in movie form. It turns compassion into a flashing billboard and fits together way too neatly.”

Fans have been loving the film since it was added to Netflix
However, audiences have been impressed with the emotional film, as one enthused: “It is a very gripping and compelling storyline, just as it is a heartfelt, emotional and beautiful storyline,” and a second commented: “One of the few films that leaves a beautiful impression inside you. I haven’t cried that hard in a long time.“
A third mused: “I put this on as background to scrolling on my phone. It’s by no means the best film out there, but it is engaging. By the end, I’d put down my phone and had some (more than a few) tears. It’s a lovely film, and I didn’t realise it was based on a true story until the end, which made me cry even more – and I’m not a cryer. It’s a sad-happy/happy-sad film, executed well.”
Who stars in 2 Hearts?
2 Hearts is led by Jacob Elordi (Wuthering Heights), who landed the role one year after appearing in hit drama Euphoria. Other key roles are played by Adam Canto (The Following), Tiera Skovbye (Riverdale) and Radha Mitchell (Neighbours).
The cast is rounded out by Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica), Kari Matchett (Covert Affairs), Jordan Burtchett (The Killing) and Anthony Konechny (Almost Human)
