King Charles is hosting a special royal film premiere in a historic place: Windsor Castle.

The King, 77, and Queen Camilla, 78, hosted a regal reception for actress Kate Winslet and others as they showcased the monarch’s Amazon Prime documentary Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision.

The film, which debuts on Amazon Prime Video on Feb. 6, outlines what those close to King Charles say is a deeply personal exploration of his philosophy, which encourages people to see themselves in partnership with nature and the natural world.

The special showing of the film took place in the castle’s Waterloo Chamber, which is where the late Queen Elizabeth held her holiday season pantomime performances alongside her sister, Princess Margaret, when they were teenage princesses. It’s thought to be the first premiere in a royal residence.

Afterwards, the monarch invited the VIPs and the filmmakers to a party in the Grand Reception Room. Helping host the VIP guests — including Winslet, who narrated the film, along with Judi Dench, Rod Stewart, Benedict Cumberbatch, Felicity Blunt, Stanley Tucci and more — were royal relatives Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

The guests at the premiere will have seen how Finding Harmony explores King Charles’ vision for a balanced and sustainable world, which he has championed for around 50 years. Tracing the journey from Scotland to his country home, Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England, and Guyana and India, the film sees him watching archive clips of other documentaries he’s taken part in and moments from speeches he made — including one dating from 1970 when he first warned of the perils of unchecked pollution and other environmental challenges.

As it does, there are poignant, fleeting video images of Prince Harry being shown how to fish by his father in Scotland — following other footage showing Charles being taught to cast his line by his father, Prince Philip. There are also archival shots of Prince William being shown a field and talking with his father about some livestock they had at the farm on the Gloucestershire estate.

At Highgrove, King Charles is shown feeding his chickens (some of which are kept in a coop called Cluckingham Palace) and, when talking about the different varieties of vegetables he likes to grow, the royal chuckles and says the “red Duke of Yorks are really good” when they’re baked.

Patrick Holden, a contributor to the film and ally in Charles’ longstanding campaign, says that chef Jamie Oliver once said that the King was a “bit of a hippy” — and, Holden adds, “that is probably true.”

It traces the story of how Charles uses his King’s Foundation to foster the use of sustainable textiles and food production, to promoting community regeneration and traditional skills. Much of that is centered at Dumfries House, in Ayrshire, Scotland. But filming — which begun a year ago — took place over four continents, highlighting Harmony projects across the globe. And he asks, “It would be nice to try and see if we can get through to people, but who knows?”

At one point in the film, Winslet narrates, “While explaining his passion for organic gardening to the press, Prince Charles made a comment that has haunted him ever since,” referring to a 1986 interview in which he talked to plants. (When Katy Perry brought it up to the royal in 2020, Charles replied, “I would prefer it if you sang to them.”)

King Charles — who has been followed in his environmental campaigning by both his sons, with William cinjuring up his Earthshot Prize to find solutions to the planet’s challenges — ends the film saying, “It all boils down to the fact that we are actually nature ourselves, we are a part of it, not apart from it, which is really how things are being presented for so long.”

“Maybe, by the time I shuffle off this mortal coil, there might be a little more awareness…of the need to bring things back together again,” the King said.
