“ABSENTIA IS BACK — BUT THE REAL SHOCK? FANS THINK THE STORY ISN’T OVER.” Netflix’s Surprise Drop Sends Viewers Into PANIC Mode as Hidden Clues Spark Wild Rumors of a Secret Season 4

Absentia has just landed on Netflix and the thriller, which is just one of many on the streaming platform, features an impressive ensemble cast. The programme, which had viewers shouting at their televisions, centres on FBI special agent Emily Byrne, who vanishes whilst pursuing one of Boston’s most infamous serial killers.

Six years on, having been officially declared dead in absentia, she’s discovered in a woodland cabin with absolutely no memory of her ordeal. She quickly becomes embroiled in a fresh string of murders and every series has kept audiences on the edge of their seats.

Here’s everything you need to know about the number of seasons available.

The programme was commissioned for a second series, which debuted in March 2019. A third series then began broadcasting in July 2020, exclusively on Prime Video.

The show ran for three series altogether as sadly, it was axed following the third series. Every series comprises 10 episodes, meaning there are 30 episodes available for viewers to enjoy overall.

Stana Katic, who portrays Emily in the programme, revealed the show was always intended to span just three series.

In a goodbye post on X at the time, she wrote: “Although we’ve danced with the idea of continuing the tale, Absentia was always meant to be only three seasons, and I couldn’t think of a better note to end on… for any person on this planet, but especially [Katic’s character] Emily and her loved ones.”

She further commented: “When they asked me in January 2017 if I was ready to spend three years in Bulgaria shooting a cable TV series, I had no idea what I was in for.

“I could never have imagined the creative partnerships and the friendships that would form and enrich my life.

“Three seasons was the perfect amount of space for a beautiful, complicated and wonderfully fulfilling journey.”

The series also stars Patrick Heusinger as Special Agent Nick Durand.

Absentia is available on Netflix.
